Don wrote “Building Wings” to help students build self-confidence. Through personal stories, students can identify with Don’s struggles as a learner. He used valuable lessons learned from his 8th grade teacher to show how students can advocate for themselves and learn in different ways. Don also wrote “Building Wings” as a reminder for teachers, parents and other faculty that individual learning needs and behavioral signs can be disguised.
